On behalf of the Secretariat and the entire MUNSA staff, I welcome you to participate in MUNSA XXI : Cultivate. This year, MUNSA will be held on the Trinity University campus from January 4-6, 2016. Registration for the conference will open August, 30 2016 and close December 3, 2016. This year’s cost per delegate is $65. The school registration fee is $100, and there is a $50 fee per sponsor. Schools may register after the deadline; however, a late registration fee of $10 per delegate will be applied to the cost. After December 9, 2016, schools that withdraw from the conference will not be refunded.
The conference hotel will be the El Tropicano, located in downtown San Antonio. Tax exemption is only available for Texas schools who present a tax exempt form prior to the El Tropicano. MUNSA will not be responsible for reserving hotel rooms. Each sponsor must make reservations on an individual basis. To receive the special group discount, you must identify as being with “MUNSA XXI 2017”. The hotel will not be responsible for monitoring attendees. Please reserve hotel rooms for the conference in advance in order to receive the reduced rate. All reservations must be made before December 3, 2016.
I would also like to bring to your attention that the dates of the conference may seem a little off when compared with your winter break schedule. We found many school districts have their students starting the second semester as late as January the 5 which is the second day of MUNSA XXI. Please inform your delegates, and keep this in mind when making reservations for any overnight stays or filing paperwork with your school to request days off for you and your delegates.
This year at MUNSA, we will be offering three new committees for delegates to participate in: the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Future Security Council. UNESCO strives to build networks among nations that enable solidarity, by mobilizing for education, building intercultural understanding, pursuing scientific cooperation, and protecting freedom of expression. UNPD works to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion by aiding nations in developing policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. Future Security Council will manage potential conflicts and issues that could arise from the contentious current states global affairs.
During the conference, we will provide lunch on Thursday as well as lunch and dinner on Friday. We will not provide dinner on Wednesday night during registration, but we will offer a meal that you can pre-order on the registration form; the cost will be $9 per person. The pre-ordered dinner will be a vegetarian buffet served at Mabee Dining Hall on campus.
On Thursday night, we will be holding a delegate dance in the Coronado Ballroom at the El Tropicano from 8-11PM. Pre-registration tickets for the dance will cost $5 per person, and tickets at the door will cost $10 per person. T-shirts will cost $15 each. You can pre-purchase conference t-shirts with your registration. We cannot guarantee any t-shirts to purchase at the conference.
All proceeds from the conference will go to Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) . CARE’s overall goal is to fight global poverty, with a slogan of “Defending dignity. Fighting Poverty.” The organization works in over 95 developing countries and assists millions of impoverished individuals and families every year by working to create sustainable, long-term solutions to a variety of problems. CARE places special importance on the empowerment of women, and some of the many issues they address include clean water, economic development, hunger, social justice, empowerment and education of youth, healthcare, and climate change. CARE also provides emergency response and rehabilitation in times of crisis.
